Out in the post on Monday.
A little explanation.
1. Mendelssohn – A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Ms Dench as Puck, born very much to be wild
2. Al regreso del campo – José Iranzo Bielsa: a Spanish shepherd from the 1930s, recorded by Alan Lomax (see last CD) calling to his dog and then singing a traditional song, a man at home in the wild
3. Long Ago and Far Away – Chet Baker, lovely voice, lovely sound, but a very wild chap away from the microphone
4. Makin’ Whoopee – Stephane Grappelli, a rather jolly version of one of the best songs about going wild
5. Avengers Tag – Laurie Johnson: I always found The Avengers wild in a contained way. Especially Emma Peel.
6. It’s only a paper moon – Ray McKinley and his orchestra, wildness from 60 years ago
7. Break on Through – The Doors: the definition of rock wildsters?
8. The Life of Riley – The Lightning Seeds: I don’t mind, I get the feeling, You’ll be fine, I still believe, That in this world, We’ve got to find the time, To live the life of Riley
9. Jacaras por la E – Santiago de Murica, played by Paul O’Dette: an example of the 16th/17th century Spanish folk songs which were regarded by the establishment as corrupting the youngsters of the day, the jitterbug of the time
10. Vissi d’arte – Maria Callas sings Puccini in Tosca: wild, wherever you look
Hope you all enjoy it.
